Terms of Service — Markwhat
Summary
Markwhat is a free Markdown reader for Android. You do not pay for it, you do not create an account, and you do not give us any personal details. Your files stay on your device and remain entirely yours — we claim no rights over them.
In return, the app is provided as is, with no warranty, and our liability is limited. Markwhat can edit and overwrite your files when you ask it to, so keep backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.
These Terms are a legal agreement. The summary above is for convenience only; the sections below govern.
1. Acceptance of these Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Markwhat, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not install the app, and uninstall it if you already have.
If you are using Markwhat on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have the authority to accept these Terms on that organisation's behalf.
2. Who provides Markwhat
Markwhat is developed and published by FirstPoint Studios, a brand of:
ANPB FirstPoint Technologies Private Limited
A private limited company incorporated in India on 18 June 2026 under the Companies Act, 2013
Corporate Identity Number (CIN):U62011TS2026PTC217833
Registered office: H. No. 11-13-388, Rd No. 13, Alakapuri Colony, Ramakrishnapuram, Saroornagar, K.V. Rangareddy - 500035, Telangana, India
The app is distributed through Google Play. Contact details are in Section 17.
3. The app is free
Markwhat is provided free of charge. As of the version these Terms cover:
- There is no purchase price.
- There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no premium tier, and no paywalled features.
- There is no advertising of any kind — no ad networks, no ad SDKs, no sponsored content, no affiliate links.
- There is no account, no sign-up, and no login. The app never asks for your name, email address, phone number, or payment details.
Because the app is free, you are not a paying customer, and nothing in these Terms creates an obligation on us to provide the app indefinitely, to support it, or to maintain any particular feature (see Sections 9 and 12).
If we ever introduce a paid feature, we will do so in a clearly identified future version, and these Terms will be updated before that version ships. We will never convert a feature you already use into a paid one without telling you in that version's release notes.
4. Licence to use the app
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Markwhat on Android devices you own or control, for personal or internal business purposes.
Your use of the app through Google Play is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service, which apply in addition to these Terms.
5. Ownership, and third-party components
Markwhat is proprietary software. All rights in the application — including its source code, design, user interface, name, and logo — are owned by ANPB FirstPoint Technologies Private Limited or its licensors, and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. All rights reserved.
Markwhat is not open-source software. Section 4 grants you a licence to use the app on your own devices; it grants you no ownership of it, and no right to copy, modify, redistribute, sublicense, or sell the app or its source code.
Markwhat does incorporate third-party open-source components, each of which remains subject to its own licence:
| Component | Purpose | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| AndroidX / Jetpack Compose / Material 3 | Application framework and UI | Apache License 2.0 |
| Markwon | Markdown parsing and rendering | Apache License 2.0 |
| Mermaid | Diagram rendering | MIT License |
| Timber | Logging | Apache License 2.0 |
| Firebase SDK (Analytics, Crashlytics) | Crash reporting and usage diagnostics | Google APIs Terms of Service |
Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under any of those open-source licences. Where an open-source licence conflicts with these Terms in respect of the component it covers, that licence prevails for that component. Those licences apply to the third-party components only, and do not extend to Markwhat's own code.
6. Your files and your content
Your files are yours. You retain all ownership of, and all rights in, every Markdown file and every other document you open, create, edit, or export with Markwhat.
- We claim no licence, no ownership, and no rights over your content.
- Markwhat does not upload, sync, back up, or transmit your file contents to us or to any third party. All processing is local to your device. See the Privacy Policy.
- We have no ability to access, recover, restore, or delete your files. If you lose them, we cannot help you get them back.
You are solely responsible for the files you open with Markwhat, including having the right to access and modify them.
7. Backups and the risk of data loss
Markwhat can modify and overwrite files on your device. Specifically:
- The Editor writes your changes back over the original file when you save.
- Rename changes a file's name in place.
- Save to folder and PDF export create new files.
- Deleting a Recents entry deletes the app's local snapshot copy of that file.
Software has bugs, devices fail, and storage providers behave unpredictably. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of any file you value. We strongly recommend backing up important documents before editing them in Markwhat, or in any other editor.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss of, corruption of, or damage to your files. See Sections 10 and 11.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Markwhat to open, store, or distribute content that is unlawful, or that you do not have the right to access;
- use Markwhat to infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application, except to the extent that this restriction is prohibited by applicable law (for example, where local law permits decompilation for interoperability), or as expressly permitted by the licence of a third-party open-source component;
- copy, modify, redistribute, sublicense, rent, lease, or sell the app or its source code;
- remove or obscure any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notice in the app;
- redistribute the app as your own, or represent a modified build as an official FirstPoint Studios release;
- deliberately interfere with the app's operation, or attempt to use it to compromise the security of a device or service.
9. Availability, updates, and support
Markwhat is provided on an "as available" basis.
- We may release updates, and may change, add, or remove features in future versions.
- We may stop distributing or supporting the app at any time, for any reason, without liability to you.
- We are under no obligation to provide technical support, bug fixes, or updates. We may choose to, but nothing here requires it.
- Some functionality depends on your device, your Android version, other apps that share files with the app, and Google Play services. We do not warrant that Markwhat will work with every device, file, or third-party app.
Installed copies of the app continue to work on your device regardless of whether we keep distributing it, for as long as your device and Android version support it.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
Markwhat is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy, and non-infringement.
Without limiting the above, we do not warrant that:
- the app will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free;
- any defect will be corrected;
- the app will render every Markdown document, diagram, or PDF correctly or exactly as another renderer would;
- the app will preserve the formatting, structure, or content of any file it edits or exports;
- the app is fit for any regulated, safety-critical, or professional-record-keeping purpose.
Markwhat is a document-viewing utility. Do not rely on it as the sole system of record for anything important.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, business opportunity, data, or files, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use Markwhat — whether based in contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or any other theory, and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
- Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims relating to Markwhat is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the app, which is zero, or (b) USD 10.
These limits do not apply where the law does not permit them. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of certain damages, so parts of Sections 10 and 11 may not apply to you. If you are a consumer, you may have statutory rights that these Terms cannot override, and nothing here affects those rights.
12. Termination
You may terminate these Terms at any time by uninstalling Markwhat.
We may terminate or suspend your licence to use the app if you materially breach these Terms. Since the app requires no account and runs locally, that termination takes practical effect by you ceasing to use and uninstalling the app.
Sections 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, and 15 survive termination.
13. Privacy
Your use of Markwhat is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In short: no account, no personal details, no ads, no file contents ever leave your device — only anonymous crash and feature-usage diagnostics, as described there.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top, and material changes will be noted in the release notes of the app version that introduces them.
Continuing to use Markwhat after the Terms change means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, uninstall the app.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to the paragraph below, the courts at Hyderabad, Telangana, India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the app.
If you are a consumer resident in the EEA, the UK, or another jurisdiction whose law grants you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts, or the protection of mandatory local consumer law, nothing in this section removes that right.
Before starting formal proceedings, please email us at the address in Section 17. Most issues with a free utility app are resolved faster that way.
16. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and FirstPoint Studios regarding Markwhat, and supersede any prior understanding.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, it is modified to the minimum extent necessary, or severed, and the remaining provisions stay in full force.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms. We may assign them to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- No agency. These Terms create no partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship between us.
- Google Play. Google is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation or liability in respect of Markwhat.
